After I made my side-slit maxi skirt, I had a dream one night that I had a maxi dress made out of the same fabric. The dress in my dream had a loose top with a fitted waist and a straight skirt with a slit on each side. Here is what I made.
Making this dress was almost as easy as the skirt. The only difference was that I had to trace a T-shirt for the top and sew that on to the waistband as well. To keep it simple, I chose a top design that I thought didn’t require any darts. In retrospect, I probably should have added some under the arms. I chose the boat neck to keep my chest out of the sun. The waist gives the dress shape and the side slits make it breezy for the summer.
Aside from the darts, I am incredibly impressed with how close this dress is to the dream that spawned the idea! It’s a perfect dress when you want to cover up but still look summery. What do you think?
