DIY Maxi Skirt Reprise

The thing about making your own clothes is that it is incredibly easy to remake the stuff you love again and again. A couple of weeks ago, I decided on whim to remake my side-slit maxi skirt on a Saturday morning and was finished in time to go for brunch.

This skirt is self drafted but I previously posted a closer look at how I made it. This time I only had a 3″ elastic so I cut a 7″ high rectangle that was the length of my waist plus seam allowance for the waistband. I also moved the slit a little bit further to the side and made it a few inches shorter because I thought it would look better with running shows (my go-to shoe choice on weekends). I think it still works with sandals too though.

In the two weeks I’ve had this skirt it has become my go-to after work and weekend outfit. It is incredibly comfortable to wear and looks like you put some effort in when all you really want is to be wearing sweatpants. It is also an incredibly easy DIY to try for yourself and I would recommend it for anyone who wants to try drafting your own patterns for the first time. Feel free to send me a note if you have any questions about how to do it.

Happy sewing!
