Me Made May – Year #1 Summary

I did it! I completed my first Me Made May! For those who aren’t familiar with Me Made May, it the month that the sewing and knitting communities on Instagram make pledges and many in the community try to wear (and document) clothes that they made every day of the month.

As I was new to the Instagram sewing community last year, I’ve never had a chance to participate in Me Made May before and I decided to give it a go. For the entire month of May, I photographed and posted my daily outfits on Instagram. Here are the results (click to on a photo to enlarge and scroll through them – sorry I can’t add descriptions because it messes up how they display but most can be found in previous posts and all the details are on my Instagram, linked at the end of this post):

Now a recap: It really was a challenge taking daily photos! I couldn’t have done it without my amazing and wonderful co-worker Rayael. I did some with my home set up but I enlisted Rayael for most of them and my fiance was conscripted for duty as well on weekends. Throughout the month I got much better at posing and feeling comfortable in front of the camera, so it got easier. I also became much less self-conscious taking photos in public. I had no choice. I had to either laugh off the awkward encounters or stop taking daily photos!

Ultimately, I am really happy with how the month went. I easily wore me-made clothing every day without too many repeats, which makes me proud of how far I’ve come in my quest for a fully me-made wardrobe. The challenge also helped keep my spirits up during an incredibly difficult and disheartening month at work and for my health. Through being sick and realizing that I was going to have to leave my job and look for a new one if I wanted to be happy at work again, Me Made May gave me something positive to focus on and I am thankful for that. I am feeling better now and I have a few leads on jobs so I’m optimistic I will be in a better place by summer. Needless to say, I didn’t sew much during Me Made May. I’m excited to get back to my machines soon!
