Houndstooth

Sewing is awesome. It is awesome because when you think of something you want, you don’t have to search for it in stores, you just have to make it. This houndstooth coat was exactly that, something I wanted and I made.

This is my third coat project and is the best so far. There were a number of firsts for me on this project: first houndstooth, first separating zipper (the pattern didn’t call for a zipper so I had to figure out how to put it in myself), and first welt pockets. This coat is fully lined but the material I choose is quite a loose weave so it is not warm. I’ll have to wait until it warms up a bit to wear it outside. This is another commercial pattern from Bootstrap.

I think that with the experience of these last two coats under my belt, the next one I’m going to try to make from scratch starting with my own pattern. I have enough coats for this winter though so that will probably a fall 2017 project. Stay tuned for a step by step of how I develop the pattern. I anticipate it will be quite difficult and I will try to document it as I try to figure out what I’m doing.

Thanks for stopping by!
