Sometimes when it is grey outside, the only thing to do is bring out the neon. I had so many plans for the sunshine today and when the clouds, wind, and rain put an end to those plans, I did the next best thing. I pulled out my two most favourite summer polishes and brought the sunshine to my nails instead.
Today’s design has two versions: matte and glossy. For the first, I painted a base in my favourite neon, China Glaze Flip Flop Fantasy. Neon polishes tend to be quite matte on their own but I covered it with a coat of Essie’s Matte About You to unify the finish. On top of Flip Flop Fantasy I used a detail brush to add the five-petal flowers in Color Club Angel Kiss with a white centre in Orly White Out. On the accent nail I used Angel Kiss with white flowers. Here are some photos of the matte finish that I managed to snap during a brief break in the clouds:
The only difficulty with leaving this design like this is that the flowers do not have the protection of a top coat. Shortly after I did my nails I was making lunch and damaged one of the petals. I decided, though I prefer my neons matte, that I had to top coat the design. I could have top coated in Matte About You but I didn’t think my flowers would look good matte so I used Essie Good to Go instead. The clouds cleared just enough later in the day to allow me to snap some photos and sit in a puddle of sunshine on the bedroom floor to do my editing.
What do you think? Matte or gloss? Either way, the neon brought out the sunshine. That’s my story and I’m sticking to it!
