Last year I made my first blouse. This year, I decided to do it again but got impatient at the end and decided to not sew on the collar. Voila, a mandarin collar! Prior to doing this, I hadn’t really given any though to how a mandarin collar was made. In getting lazy and omitting the collar but still putting on the collar stand, I just stumbled into it and I’m so happy I did.
Here are some photos of my first blouse from last year (with a collar), and my second blouse from this year made with the same pattern, minus the collar.
I really like the collarless look. It works well open and closed and I think it will still look good in the winter under a sweater. It is so fun to stumble on something you like and the best way I’ve found to do that is to stray from the instructions.
This is how I’m wearing my new blouse this spring. The shoes Louis Et Cie, a magical find earlier this year from The Bay.
